NISH Rehabilitation Engineering

NISH Rehabilitation Engineers provide accessibility and productivity assistance for AbilityOne employees, contracts, and lines of business.  NISH Rehabilitation Engineers provide assistance on both products and services contracts, and provide training.

Examples of assistance on products contracts include: (Note: do we have specific examples?)

  • Equipment modification
  • Light automation
  • Mistake proofing
  • Job simplification
  • Cell manufacturing

Articles on the specific projects have been included in the Clearinghouse. They include:

  • Janitorial
  • Commissary
  • Fleet Management
  • Grounds Maintenance
  • Laundry.

In addition, NISH Rehabilitation Engineers provide training in conjunction with Rehabilitation Professionals from the University of Wisconsin. The current course schedule and presentations from past training will be available on this website.

In June 2009, the Institute contracted with Mathematica Policy Research to explore the use of an employer payroll tax credit to provide employers with stronger incentives to hire people with disabilities.

Mathematica developed a preliminary model of a budget-neutral employer payroll tax credit, estimating the potential cost savings to the Federal government of companies employing people with disabilities.
